The Malaysian National Curriculum, known as the Standard Curriculum for Secondary Schools (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah or KSSM), was introduced in 2017, guiding students through a comprehensive five-year educational journey from Form One to Form Five.
Lower secondary students (Form One to Form Three) take the Ujian Akhir Sesi Akademik (UASA), while upper secondary students (Form Four and Form Five) prepare for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM). The curriculum focuses on building a strong foundation in core subjects like mathematics, science, and humanities, equipping students with essential knowledge and skills to navigate an increasingly complex world. Through this holistic approach, students are encouraged to develop critical thinking, creativity, and a lifelong love for learning.
While Malay serves as the primary language of instruction in the KSSM curriculum, there’s also a significant emphasis on English proficiency. The curriculum adopts the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) to assess and enhance students’ English language skills across listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Additionally, Sekolah Menengah Paragon is certified under the Dual Language Programme (DLP), where Mathematics and Science subjects are taught in English.
Ultimately, the KSSM Curriculum aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals who possess not only academic excellence but also the necessary skills, values, and attitudes to excel in an ever-changing society.
