A Malaysian National Curriculum offered by the Ministry of Education (MOE) with Malay language as the main language of instruction for learning. The new curriculum known as KSSR Revised (Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Rendah Semakan) will be replacing the old curriculum (KSSR) starting in 2017. The aim of the new curriculum revised by MOE is to equip learners with 21st Century skills with higher order thinking skills, molding leaders for tomorrow and the ability to use bilingual in their daily life. All these are to prepare the nation for global competition to succeed in the world today.

Learners will follow the curriculum for six years from Primary One to Primary Six. Primary Four to Primary Six learners need to sit for the final test of the academic session (UASA). It is a school-level test that is carried out as part of the summative PBD at the end of the academic calendar. UASA is to test the cognitive level of students, not to compare performance or achievements between students, schools, districts and states. The subjects tested are Malay Language, English Language, Science, Mathematics and Sejarah. The aim of the primary level education is to equip learners with a strong foundation of language, science knowledge, mathematics skills and other supporting subjects that are in line with the goals of the National philosophy of Education which seeks to optimise the intellectual, emotional and spiritual potential of pupils.
